Anecdotes of Father Santan Pinto, SOLT

The kingdom of God is like a Pilgrimage

The path becomes narrower and the climb increases. Many seem to come along for the first leg of the journey. But when the path becomes tough people drop out in large numbers.

During the first stage there is much help. The bags are loaded on vans and buses and the bus ride is comfortable.

The second part of the journey begins when you start walking. The journey is through desert. The thirst increases and one gets tired easily. The heat makes the journey tedious. You take what you can carry on this part of the journey. There is none to help you or assist you. Yet there are stops along the journey where you can rest and replenish supplies. These are the insights the Lord gives to souls who persevere along this journey.

Then comes the third part of the pilgrimage. The crowds have now dwindled to only a few. Now begins the steep climb. Those who know this journey leave their belongings behind. There are a few who try to climb with some of their belongings and after a short climb fall down. Some try to get up and some hurt badly and thus have to abandon the journey. The wise, watch the experienced souls. These are the saints who have gone ahead and show us how to travel this path. How often these few must work together as a team, supporting each other, and encouraging the other. The climb becomes harder, the winds begin to blow. During the journey these souls knew fear; but now there is dread. Nobody speaks on the journey. All maintain a silence as they focus on every move they make. Now one mistake could become fatal. The secret that these few possess is how to turn their own feelings and thoughts off and listen to the Lord who guides them on this journey.

How happy are they who finally reach the summit. For their perseverance they have attained to the realization and enlightenment that only God is necessary. For the one who possess God needs nothing else. Now this soul walks with God in the garden. It trusts totally in the Lord along the rest of its pilgrimage. The one the soul was searching for is seated on the throne of the heart. The wedding feast has begun and the soul rejoices in the wonders the Lord works for his beloved.
